A brief history
The organisation has been providing services to Cotswold residents since the early '60s when it was first set up as 'South Cotswold Voluntary Services'. Even today there is a reminder of our beginnings since we still use (as of Spring '08) the acronym 'SCVS' as part of our website address.
Over the intervening four decades we have gradually expanded our services, and our area of benefit, so that we now provide services in most parts of Gloucestershire and in the adjacent parts of Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Warwickshire etc.
Our administrative headquarters is in the town of Cirencester, where we also deliver services locally. We have smaller sub-offices in Bourton-on-the-Water, Fairford and Tetbury where local residents can access information about services, and volunteers can pop-in for a chat and a mug of tea. Each of our offices has an active (or fledgling) community fundraising team and a small army of highly valued volunteer drivers and escorts (lots of our users can't travel unaccompanied). |
